Maintaining of Wellness

                                                             "Add years to life."

Change is inevitable in nature and so it is in the human body. Above 60 is considered as old age. This is the stage  when degeneration of all tissues occur rapidly and regeneration is at a very low pace. This is the time when air element (Vata dosha) is in its dominant state which controls and initiates all movements in the body. Degeneration or withering out of the body elements is part of it. Conditions like osteoporosis, dying up of enzymes (essential for vital functions) low actions of hormones etc. Are all signs of old age.

Gone are the days when people above the age of sixty had to reconcile to the fact that with growing age they would face gradual memory loss and other age related diseases. Nowadays, ageing population all over the world is increasing owing to comforts, better lifestyle, life supporting systems and health foods. Now, very few of the senior citizens forget the names of their loved ones. If they do , then corrective options are also not far away.

Maintaining of wellness by following Daily routine and Routine suited to seasons.

"No need to just accept ageing... Fight it"

Introduction

"Living is an art, So protect the health and maximize the joy of living."

He who indulges daily in healthy foods and activities, who discriminate good and bad  or every thing and than acts wisely, who is not attached too much to the  object of senses, who develop the habit of charity, of considering all equal with kindness and truthfulness, pardoning and keeping company of good persons only, becomes free from all disease. This is the essence of life to be healthy, wealthy and wise.

Life is based on energy principle's  The COVID 19  pandemic has turned our lives upside down, and the virus poses even greater risk for elderly , many of whom are dealing with different age related  health issues. To sail through this crisis it becomes all the more important for them to keep certain precautions in mind.

In a normal person digestive power keep gaining strength till the age of 60 and after 60 begins to decline. This prevent the body from getting all nutrients that it needs. The body weakens and the quantity of wastes increases. A person also experiences the draining of mental faculties. This is termed as old age. If the Agnis - enzymes are strengthened, the ageing process will be arrested.

Healthy Person : The one whose three Biological Energies (Doshas), Seven tissues or Dhatus and elimination of three wastes (malas) is in balance and also who has a balanced and contented mind and soul is considered to be a healthy person. And a person should have energy to do more.

Or a person should be healthy physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.

                                                                 Being healthy & Happy."

One who follows Swastha Vritta would be : He lives a disease free and potent life of hundred years with full vigor in all his senses. Swasthavritta is the branch of Ayurveda which deals with prevention of diseases through holistic approach by Diet, Hygiene and Yoga & Nephropathy.

"Prevention of diseases through systematic daily routine and promoting a spiritual life style is another aim."

Life is based on energy principles-  two important different poles of energy known by different names in different streams of philosophy viz:
Tantra says it - Shiva and Shakti
Samkhya say it - Purush and Prakriti
Vedanta says it - Brahman and Maya
Hatha Yoga says it - Pingla and Ida
The two principles are actually ' consciousness' and 'life force' and are opposite poles of energy - plus and minus energies. These two energies have various spheres of existence and operation in the cosmos and in the individual. One has to balance both the energies to keep one self fit and going.

If after a fall the patient feels pain on his side it could be the hip or the spine. Common among octogenarians , the soft bones in their spine can break easily when they fall down
. It is extremely important to differentiate between the two as the later is more dangerous.
One should lay the person as he or she is and make sure they are comfortable
Avoid giving the patient something to eat and drink, unless completely necessary. This is to ensure that the evaluations that one has to undergo at the hospital go smoothly as they may require a fasting process.

Proper hand hygiene helps in reducing the risk of contracting the virus. The mnemonic SUMAN ( Seedha, ultra, Madham, ahgutha, and Nakhon) helps one remember the right way of washing hands.
Surface cleaning is key
The virus can enter your system through mouth, nose or eyes, so one must wipe surfaces with s damp cloth. Dusting or cleaning with compressed air should be avoided as this may make the virus sustain in the atmosphere for long, risking inhalation.

Opt for Tele- consultation
Avoid venturing out for routine checks s and prefer Tele consultation. If the doctor advises any tests, visit lab with all the precautions or opt for home collection facilities.

You don,t need to wash vegetables in soap water. A simple rinse in running or warm water with baking soda is enough. There is not much risk with vegetables as they are cooked. But fruits should  be  washed  thoroughly with baking soda and left to dry.

Don,t ignore mental health
Avoid negative news on TV or social media. Also social  distancing doesn't,t mean social isolation. The elderly should stay in touch with their loved ones, even if far, through video call tools.
