Women are naturally predisposed to condition such as osteoarthritis, as compared to men. The number of osteoarthritis women far surpasses men. The estrogen hormone is believed to provide protection to the cartilage that sits between the knee joints. Sudden depletion of this hormone after menopause exposes women to a higher of osteoarthritis risk .

Approximately 8% of women in the age group of 35-39 years experience menopause, owing to lifestyle changes. This leads to rise of number of young women complaining of knee pain. Knee arthritis is the most common type of arthritis.

The line of treatment for arthritis depends on the severity of the condition.
