Pregnancy Diagnosis
Pregnancy Diagnosis
The diagnosis of early pregnancy is usually based on measurement of human chorionic gonadotropin in urine or blood, but ultrasonography is also an accurate diagnostic technique. History and physical examination are not highly sensitive methods for early diagnosis
Introduction
Modern medical science is your best bet, when it comes to diagnosing a pregnancy accurately. Luckily there are many ways to find out for sure if you've got a baby on board.
Home Pregnancy Test (HPT)
It's an easy as 1-2 pee, and you can do it all in the privacy and comfort of your own bathroom. HPT are not only quick and accurate when you have missed your periods.
All HPT measures urinary levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), a developing placenta produce hormone of pregnancy. Hcg finds its way into your bloodstream and urine almost immediately after an embryo begins implanting in the uterus, between 6-12 days after fertilization. As soon as the HCG can be detected in your urine, you can get a positive reading.
Still medical follow up to the test is essential. So if the result is positive, its time to call your practitioner and book that first pre natal appointment.
- You don't need to use first morning urine. Any time of the day pee will do.
Blood Test
The more sophisticated blood pregnancy test can detect pregnancy with virtually 100% accuracy as early as first week after conception, using just a few drops of blood. And measure the hormones oestrogen and progesterone.
The Medical Exam
Physical signs of pregnancy such as enlargement of uterus,, color changes in vagina and cervix and a change in the texture of the cervix.
Chemical Pregnancy
The first HPT was positive, but a few days later another test was negative followed by periods? Unfortunately, it sounds like you may have experienced what's known as chemical pregnancy- when a n egg is fertilized, but for some reason never completes implantation. Instead of turning into viable pregnancy it ends in a period.
