While western health sciences look to the physical body for their data, studying them as isolated parts, Ayurvedic medicine describes different tissues, organs and systems viewing them as groups of interrelated and inter dependent structures and functions. The different tissues are integrated within themselves and at the same time with the mind and conciousness of the person. Having this union of body, mind and conciousness is then seen as harmonized with the family, society and the environment.

Modern science likes to believe that it was the first to discover that each individual has a unique biological code. But the practice has been present in different societies all over the world  since the dawn of time. Ayurveda, Unani and Chinese medicine speaks  about the existence  of body types (or humors)  and how different constitutions respond differently  to the same foods.

There are three (Biological energies) present inside the body and mind called wind (vata), fire (pitta) & water (kapha). In normal condition they are energies, but in abnormal condition they become doshas. or disease conditions. All three doshas are originated from 5 basic elements of nature (Pancha - Mahabhuta) . AIR, WATER, SPACE, FIRE & EARTH.

"Pitta imbalance can cause  issues like  Acidity and Inflammation."
Introduction

This dosha id derived from the elements of fire and water and is hot in nature. It governs metabolism and all heat related things in one's body transformation.
Within the human being different anatomical structures and physiological processes have common
attributes and are closely influenced by each other. Such related structures and functions are grouped into three governing  biological elements, leading to psycho-physiological factors, called Doshas.

The doshas which rule everything are Vata, Pitta, Kapha and constitutes the structural and functional units of all the living cells, tissues, organs and the body as a whole.

One unit (cells) each of Vata, Pitta and Kapha is the minimal requirement for the beginning of life in the most primitive form. They originate from the five basic elements e.g. Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space.
Pittaja
The disorders triggered by pitta have characteristic symptoms prominent among them are burning sensation in the chest, stomach, shoulder blades and back, which is conspicuous and may be quite severe. Other features include : fever, sweating, body odour, feeling of body parts and skin being torn, overhydration of blood and muscles, urticaria, internal bleeding, red patches on the skin which turn greenish, yellowish or bluish, jaundice, bitterness or taste of blood in mouth, severe thirst, inflammation of throat, eyes, anus and penis and discolouration of urine and feces and fainting. Clearly the overall picture of morbidity in pittaja disorders is inflammatory and the experienced physician would find no difficulty in spotting its specific actions and features and making the correct diagnosis.
Heat, acuteness, fluidity, lubricity, discolouration, except white and red, fishy smell, sour taste and mobility of leisions are indications of pittaja disturbances. Thanks to properties which are largely inflammatory pitta induces corresponding changes in the organs and location under attack.
Disorders of pitta should be treated with diet, and medications that are cold, sweet, bitter or astringent. Administration of lubricant, purgation,, bath, massage and other physical measures which ally pitta should be carried out keeping in mind the correct dosage of drugs and season. Among all the measures, purgation claims primacy in so far as it removes the entire matter of pitta from the point of its entry into the gut and composes the pitta disturbance of the whole body even as the removal  of fire cools the oven.

  • Avoid hot, dry salty spicy food as it might trigger thirst and inflammation.
  • Minimize sour food items such as vinegar along with fermented foods like hard cheese, sour creams, green grapes, pineapple and grape fruits.
  • Avoid packaged food as pitta is very sensitive to preservatives and artificial additives.

Course of Doshas
The status of vata, pitta and kapha is a constant background to disorders of the head, heart  and abscesses including those complicating diabetes. Doshas are dynamic entities which are prone to  movement in three directions.

1 . In the first place, they may remain normal.
  • Or may swing towards diminution
  • Or accumulation.
2 . Secondly they may move upwards, downwards or  in a oblique direction in the body with  corresponding manifestations.

3 . Thirdly, the perturbed doshas may migrate to the gut, vital organs or joints.

At another level, doshas may follow a dual status as normal or abnormal.
In the normal state,
pitta causes digestion
Kapha is responsible for strength.
And vata  represent the life breath and sustain every kind of movement in the body.

When the status shifts to abnormal, pitta produces several disorders;
Kapha becomes a execrable impurity and
vata brings about many diseases and may even stop the breath of life.

Lastly doshas respond to the change of seasons, which should recieve the attention of physician. Pitta undergoes aggregation, perturbation and quietude during rains, autumn and early winter. Kapha is concentrated, perturbed and composed in early winter, spring and summer.

Vata tends to accumulate, vitiate and settles down during summer, rains and autumn.

Given so many factors within and without which can always turn hostile, an individual turning for long life should be particular in following a proper code of living.

Bulimia Nervosa
The symptoms of this condition are exactly like aggravation of pitta.  Medicated purgation therapy, Shirodhara with medicated milk, as well pitta pacifying treatments helps.

ASSERTIVE MUSCULAR PITTA
OILY, HOT, IRRITABLE
Energy, Enzyme, Metabolic functions, Transformation
Pitta is composed of fire along with little water. It remains free standing, holding a central transformational position, having the ability to convert the matter of earth/water kapha  into the subtlety of the remaining elements.
The word 'Pitta' is derived from the word 'Tapa' which means heat. Pitta is like a sun. It controls the body's balance of kinetic and potential energies- processes which involve digestion or 'cooking' the maturity of food  or thought into usable energy or theories in the mind. It governs metabolic functions, biochemical processes, digestive enzymes, exocrine and endocrinal gland functions, growth and heat of the body.
The structure and functions of the Pitta have qualities like acid- liquid fire. These includes hot, moist light, intense, fluid, pungent, sour smelling, sharp and penetrating. The fire dominated  Pitta can be very intense, spontaneous and sometimes a little volatile. Digestion thermal tone and body heat, thirst and hunger, avarice or possessive instinct, vision, intellect,  bravery smooth texture of the skin etc depends on Pitta.
Physical balance in Pitta is expressed in bright coloring, strong vitality and a balanced structure. When pitta is in excess the complexion is red and blemished, the musculature is  excessively tight and constricting, the spine stiff and inflexible.
Mentally and emotionally in balance, Pitta may be full of  Vitality, clear, concise, funny, passionate, and inspiring.
Unbalanced Pitta can be fiery, judgmental, aggressive, competitive, hot tempered, impulsive, rigid and angry most of the time.
CHARECTERS : Ravana Vata , Vibhishana Pitta,  Kumbh Karana Kapha
If Pitta drinks too much of alcohol and or eats too much spicy food (fuel for fire) , the liver begins to over work, heat rises to get out through skin, reddening it, the muscle fill with more blood. (BLOOD IS FIRE IN HUMAN SYSTEM.) the muscle gets tense and hot emotions emerge. The system needs the balancing attributes of cold, moist and sedation. Pitta is generally more predominant in the area between the umbilicus and the heart.

Although the illeo-jejunum is the primary site of Pitta, the small intestine  stomach, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, blood and eyes (organ of vision) and skin are its sub-sites.

Within the digestive system the primary location of Pitta is the small intestine.

THE FIVE SUBTLE FORMS OF PITTA
  • The five subtle forms of Pitta, also known as sub - doshas, are its vital essence and qualities; they are more a force

than a tangible substance in our inner life.
Mental Pitta - Sadhaka साधक पित्त
  • Fire in the mind

  • Location: Brain & Heart

  • Function: To achieve the aim of life by attending function such as discrimination, intelligence and pride.

  • Sadhaka is the light of intelligence, located within the vital organs: the brain and the heart. This type of Pitta performs

the functions of mental discrimination, in memory and intelligence: digesting words and determining Truth or Reality as it
deals with mental digestion.
Visual Pitta - Alochaka आलोचक पित्त
  • Location: eyes

  • Function: Helps in vision.

  • Visual perception

  • Located in eyes, It is the fire that is responsible for receiving and processing light from the outside environment,

performing visual activities. Remember, it’s the power to process the light, not the light itself.
Stomach Pitta - Pachaka पाचक पित्त
  • Location: In between the stomach and large intestine.

  • Feature: Even it is composed of five basic elements predominantly it consist of ‘tejo mahabhuta ‘ which causes for

deficiency of the properties of liquids.
  • Function:

  • As It helps in process of digestion, it obtains the name of Agni (Anala) अनल /जठराग्नि (In Geeta lord Krishna

narrated that he is present in Jatharagni) It digest the food substances
  • Separates the essence and waste products

  • It remains in its own place

  • And supports by giving strength to other four types of pitta and is known as Pachak pitta.

  • Digestive fire
  • Agni performs its functions through Pachaka Pitta. It lies between the navel and the stomach, located in the stomach

and small intestine. In the west we would say we need certain amount of hydrochloric acid and other digestive juices for proper
digestion, This is true, but before that we must have the subtle energy of Pachaka, otherwise we have a collection of juices
with no power to interact. Controls preliminary food breakdown, imparts energy to other Pitta sub-doshas. Regulates digestion.
Detoxifying Pitta - Ranjaka रंजक पित्त
  • Location: Stomach

  • Function: Imparts red color to the plasma.

  • Coloration, pigmentation

  • It resides primarily in the liver and spleen, although it travels about in the blood and bile. It is the fire that makes colors

possible and which it imparts to the blood .
Skin Pitta - Bhrajaka भ्राजक पित्त
  • Location: Skin

  • Function: Gives color and complexion to the skin

  • Temperature regulation

  • Located under the whole skin, it maintains the whole skin’s luster, complexion and color. Flushing, blushing or paleness,

body odor and oil absorption can be related to the increase or decrease  of this Pitta essence. Movement and food in the system
may keep us warm but we would still be cold without the force of Bhrajaka. Under the skin to’ ignite’ the body heat.
  • In adulthood we burn with a desire  to leave our mark and accompanist our goals which bring Pitta strongly into play.

It becomes more visible and predominant through the decades. As we get older, the fire burns lower; finally reduced to a few
smoldering coals.

Pitta - That which generates heat energy in the body is called Pitta Dosha. Pitta regulates the enzymes and the hormones in the body. The food we ingest and the oxygen we breathe in is converted into Humors, tissues and waste (Doshas, Dhatus and Malas) by Pitta. Pitta maintains body temperature and digest food. It imparts colour to the blood and skin. Pitta also controls mental functions like intellect, courage and happiness.

When Pitta is not in balance digestion is adversely affected and energy level goes down. Kapha begins to accumulate in lungs and heart.

All nuts in general trigger Pitta and Kapha unless processed properly, eaten in right season and chosen as per body type. Others includes : sesame seeds, jaggery, eggs, Curd, cheese, Paneer, Cashew.

PITTA TRAITS  INCLUDE :

SITES OF PITTA

Pitta  has preferred location in the body :  Pitta remain in sweat, chyle, lymph, blood and stomach,
but Stomach is its special seat.
An emphasized repeatedly, the balance of doshas is indispensable for good health and the healthy life that goes with it. Conversely the perturbation of doshas (dosavaisamya) is the principle mechanism for endogenous disease which are innumerable. Of these are eighty, forty and twenty diseases which prominently own their genesis to the disturbance of  vata, pitta and kapha respectively.

AIR, WATER, SPACE, FIRE & EARTH. All nuts in general trigger Pitta and Kapha unless processed properly, eaten in right season and chosen as per body type.

While some basic tenets of health remain the same  for all body types (avoid fried food, processed foods and fast food). Some nutritional advice is best suited to specific body types.

Fire and water are the elements that combine to form  the Pitta Dosha . The Pitta dosha is the process of transformation or metabolism. The transformation of food into nutrients that our body can absorb is an example of a pitta function. Pitta is also responsible for metabolism in the organ and tissue systems as well as cellular metabolism.

Pitta Constitution or Prakriti

The Pitta Prakriti is born out of the fire element. A typical pitta person  will be well built  and of a medium and sturdy countenance. The calves and arm muscles are usually well developed and the skin is radiant, though some pitta types may have acne problems even past their teens.

A Pitta person's skin is often sun sensitive. The skin turns red when blushing when the sun is exposed.. Their hair has a tendency to become oily soon. They also tend to grey faster, Pitta people sleep well and through the night but can get uncomfortable in hot weather. Pitta people are of decisive nature. They have loud and strong voice  helps them excel in areas that call for leadership roles. But their fire essence  also makes them usually  short tempered and abusive. Pitta people tend to enjoy  competitive sports and have fairly good stamina. But their anger and aggression  is one aspect which  the pitta Prakratis need to balance to stay healthy

Unlock your brain power
There are three important aspects to mental performances
Dhi - learning and comprehension, govern by vata dosha
Dhriti - processing and retention of knowledge, the realm of pitta dosha,
Smriti = memory or recall, controlled by kapha dosha.
Pitta Type
  • They think they already know who they are and what they are doing.
  • If they have problems they usually have someone or something to blame or attribute these problems to not being able to achieve their goals.
  • They are most disturbed by conflict with other people which they often exaggerate or exacerbate.
  • They are prone to be at war with them selves.
  • Having a fiery nature, they tend to be aggressive, critical and can be destructive.
  • They are the most likely to respond with anger or criticism if the treatment does not go as well as they expect.
  • They are natural leaders, like authority and are impressed with important credentials.
  • Are highly intelligent and expect to be convinced of the validity of the treatments they are taking.
  • They do not like to be given directions or told what to do, opposing them encourages their basic aggression and will not help them learn,
  • They tend to be either for or against something and see things in black and white.
Pitta Reducing Impressions

  • Fasting
  • Consumption of  dry vegetables, alkaline foods
  • Consumption of large quantities of bitter, pungent, sour, salty, sharp, hot ingredients, such as chill's and spicy food
  • Fermented foods and drinks increases Pitta.
  • Sesame or Mustard oil, fried and oily food, and yoghurt, are harmful to Pitta’s digestion and cause indigestion, leading to acid formation,
  • Exposure to too much heat and sun , during summer, at the end of the rainy season, during midday, and midnight, and during the time of the digestion of food.
  • Indigestion
  • Depression

Reason For Aggravation
This is hot, slightly greasy, pungent, liquid and smell. Effect on physiology - When Pitta dosha dominates in the  body, it is called Pitta constitution. Such people have excessive hunger and thirst, Graying of hairs, and baldness, sharpness of character, strong digestive power, excessive sweating, urine and excreta etc.

When Pitta falls down reduction in digestive power. Reduction in body temperature. Reduction in radiance and sheen on skin and feeling of coldness would occur. Therefore Pitta increasing food and herbal medicine are to be used.. Herbal preparation which increases Pitta should be used.
Pitta skin
 Pitta Skin
Nature and texture : Soft skin, which is warm to touch, may be sensitive. Pores size : Visible pores mainly in the T zone. Problems : Redness, inflammation, rosacea, moles, pigmentation.

13. Going for a walk in parks and on the banks of lakes
14. Sit by a lake, on the sand, which has well-formed banks and clean water.
15 .Causes of aggravation of pitta to be discontinued.

How to take Triphala

Triphala is an ancient herbal mix , a combination of powder form of three fruits Amla , haritaki and bhibitaki. It offers solutions to various health and body conditions.
If you have a Pitta body type : Take 1 and 1/2 teaspoon of Triphala powder twice a day with room temperature water.

Special regimens to alleviate Pitta

Sit on the bank of a lotus pond
Walk through a park with plentiful trees
Enjoy pleasing gestures from others
Include milk and clarified butter in the diet
Purgation.

Pitta dosha is associated with bio-transformation as seen in middle age Therefore middle age is dominated with maintenance."

"Abdomen is the primary location of the Pitta. (below the diaphragm)"

FIRE : The power of transformation and change; has the quantity of heat, dryness and upward movement. The metabolic processes regulating the cell are governed mainly by fire element.
WATER : Liquid cool flowing and downward movement. The water element is predominant in the cytoplasm, the liquid in the cell.

THE FIRE ELEMENT, TEJAS MAHABHOOTA
Form without substance.
The energy structure of the universe,
The principle of conversion, transformation, heat, light.
It's essential quality is appearance.
Tejas, light, fire and heat, is trans formative. It is form without substance. It can convert a substance from solid to liquid to gas
and vice versa. All the metabolic processes - digestion, absorption and assimilation in the living organism as well as the
ripening, flowering and decaying of plants are governed by Tejas.
Lightness, roughness, sharpness, clarity, minuteness, hotness, dryness, luminosity are its properties.Spreading actively and at
the high speed, it's movement is upward. Pungent, slightly sour and salty are its tastes. It's social sense is vision, and and social
sense organ is the Eye.
The intestines, function of metabolism, color of skin, temperature and digestion in the human body represents the presence
of Tejas.

THE WATER ELEMENT, JALA / AAP MAHABHUTA
Substance without stability.
The principle of cohesion.
Moistening, dissolving,
It's essential quality is taste.
Jala / Aap,water, is the liquid state of matter whose characteristic attribute is flux. It is substance without stability. Essential
for sustaining life, the quality that binds the molecules of all matter in the universe, water is the cooling element which
maintains electrolyte balance, nourishes plants and  animals and sustains the environment.Water gives grace and flow to our
movement.

BLOOD Ayurveda considers it as one among the 7 bodily tissues and as one among the 10 pranayathana (where  life resides)
and most blood disorders are described with causes, clinical manifestation, complications, management etc. Herb, diet, lifestyle,
adaptations, herbs mineral formulations which have stood the test of time.

Pitta dosha governs the formation of food and ideas.

Physical Feature : Hot in nature with a robust circulation that leads to rusty coloring and warm extremities. Medium sized built with moderate muscle tone. Skin is fair, warm reddish soft and moist. Many freckles and moles with a tendency towards rashes or acne. Medium sized eye, light in color, soft thin  or light colored reddish hair that may turn grey or bald early.

Sensitivity : Burn easily in the sun. Sensitive to heat and humidity.

Body Function : Prone to inflammation of muscles and tissues especially in the shoulders and middle back where they accumulate stress. Robust healthy appetite and will become irritable if they skip the meal. Best digestion of the three doshas. Women have regular menstrual cycles with heavy bleeding and PMS.

Liver

For a healthy life, the importance of a healthy liver cannot be underestimated. As the liver performs a multitude of functions

in the body continuously, it becomes an indispensable part of the body. Pitta which is one of the three humors of the body,
governs a whole lot of things. It affects our appetite, pachana, excretion, expulsion of solid waste, pigmentation of the skin,
body balance etc. It also affects our temperament, the thought  process etc by influencing the hormones. The level of pitta in
the body greatly influence our attitudes and spiritual inclinations by the  association with the energy centers (chakras) in our
subtle body/ our level of consciousness. Liver is of vital importance in the origin and regulation of pitta. Therefore it becomes
important for us to maintain good health of the liver.

A large chunk of today’s ailment, liver problems included, can be attributed to a bad lifestyle. Regulating our food intake in

terms of quality, quantity, timings will make a big difference to liver health. Following the daily regimen (dincharya) and
seasonal regimen (ritucharya) is the answer. Avoiding saturated fats.

Pitta in adults maintains a higher metabolic rate and ensures increased productivity / performance.
In the July (Shravana) month Pitta start accumulating.

Hot         Good digestive fire, strong appetite; body temperature trends to be higher than normal; difficulty with heat; loss of hair
or baldness; hair slightly oily ; tendency towards grey hair early in life.
Sharp.        Pointed teeth, penetrating eyes, pointed nose and chin; heart shaped face; good absorption and digestion, sharp
memory and understanding; tolerant of hard work; irritable
Light.            Light / medium body frame; does not tolerate bright light; fair shiny skin, bright eyes.
Oily.             Soft oily skin, hair, feces, does not tolerate deep- fried food (irritation of liver and gall bladder)
Liquid.          Loose liquid stools, hyper toned muscles; excess urine, sweat and thirst
Spreads.       Pitta spreads as rash, acne, inflammation all over the body or on affected areas; ambitious - want to spread their
name and fame
Pitta people are more prone to oxidative stress than other types and should be careful to get enough antioxidants. They are also
characteristically prone to illnesses like hypertension and acid stomachs. The liver can become overheated, and their lives can
be distorted by the difficulty they have in controlling anger. All  (anti - Pitta) therapies are cooling, calming, moderately

cleansing and nurturing. They should be implemented with an attitude of peace, restraint and moderation.

Assertive Muscular Pitta

  • Oily, Hot Irritable

  • Energy, Enzyme, Metabolic Function, Transformation

  • Pitta, is composed of Fire along with a little water. It remains free standing, holding a central trans-informational

position, having the ability to convert the matter of earth / water (kapha) into the subtlety of the remaining elements.
  • The word ‘ Pitta’  is derived from the wordTapa’ which means heat. Pitta is like the sun. It controls the body’s kinetic

and potential energies- processes which involve digestion or ‘cooking’ the maturation of food or thought into usable energy or
theories in the mind. It governs metabolic functions, biochemical processes, digestive enzymes, exocrinal and endocrinal gland
functions, growth and heat of the body.
  • The structure and functions of Pitta have qualities like acid--- liquid fire. These include hot, moist, light, intense, fluid,

pungent, sour smelling, sharp and penetrating.
  • The fire - dominated Pitta can be very intense, spontaneous and sometimes a little volatile. Digestion, thermal tone and

body heat, thirst, and hunger, avarice or possessive instincts, vision, intellect, bravery, smooth texture of the skin, etc.depend on
Pitta.
  • Physical balance in Pitta is expressed in bright coloring, strong vitality and a balanced structure. When Pitta is in excess

the complexion is red and blemished, the musculature is excessively tight and constricting, the spine stiff and inflexible.
  • Mentally and emotionally in balance, Pitta may be full of vitality, clear, concise, funny, passionate and inspiring.

Unbalanced, Pitta can be fiery, judgmental, aggressive, competitive, hot tempered, impulsive, rigid and angry most of the time.
  • If Pitta drinks too much of alcohol and or eats too much spicy food (fuel for the fire), the liver begins to over- work,

heat rises to get out through the skin, reddening it, the muscle ill with more blood (blood is fire in the human system), the muscle
get tense and hot emotions emerge. The system needs the balancing attributes of  cold, moist and sedation.
  • Pitta is generally more predominant in the area between the umbilicus and the heart.Although the oleo- jejunum is the

primary site of Pitta, the small intestine, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, blood and eyes
(organ of vision) and skin are its sub - sites.
  • Within the digestive system, the primary location of Pitta is the small intestine.

THE FIVE SUBTLE FORMS OF PITTA
  • The five subtle forms of Pitta, also known as sub - doshas, are its vital essence and qualities; they are more a force

than a tangible substance in our inner life.
  • Mental Pitta - Sadhaka साधक पित्त

  • Fire in the mind

  • Location: Brain & Heart

  • Function: To achieve the aim of life by attending function such as discrimination, intelligence and pride.

  • Sadhaka is the light of intelligence, located within the vital organs: the brain and the heart. This type of Pitta performs

the functions of mental discrimination, in memory and intelligence: digesting words and determining Truth or Reality as it
deals with mental digestion.
  • Visual Pitta - Alochaka आलोचक पित्त

  • Location: eyes

  • Function: Helps in vision.

  • Visual perception

  • Located in eyes, It is the fire that is responsible for receiving and processing light from the outside environment,

performing visual activities. Remember, it’s the power to process the light, not the light itself.
  • Stomach Pitta - Pachaka पाचक पित्त

  • Detoxifying Pitta - Ranjaka रंजक पित्त

  • Location: Stomach

  • Function: Imparts red color to the plasma.

  • Coloration, pigmentation

  • It resides primarily in the liver and spleen, although it travels about in the blood and bile. It is the fire that makes colors

possible and which it imparts to the blood .
  • Skin Pitta - Bhrajaka भ्राजक पित्त

DAILY RHYTHM - Dincharya
Circadian rhythm. Synchronizing your daily routine with the natural daily rhythms enhances health.
Eating your main meal during the noon hour when the pitta fire is strongest, ensures good digestion
10 AM - 2 PM is the pitta cycle. digestive fire . (Agni) peaks during the middle of this period, which is best for digestive and
metabolic activity. Eat your main meal of the day at  this time, ensuring it is full and balanced. Pitta is responsible for
metabolizing food and distributing energy throughout the body.
10 PM - 2 AM Pitta cycle.Agni is active. During the night time, the Pitta period, the body is metabolizing dinner, but since the
body is asleep during this time, the energy is being converted into warmth and used to rebuild the tissues; enzymes increases,
the body gets rid of toxins, cleanses and rejuvenates itself.

Physically
Medium Height and slender even delicate body frame.
Medium prominence of veins, muscle, tendons and joints
Bluish brownish red moles /or freckles
Coppery or yellowish complexion, sometimes fair skin soft and warm
Hairs thin with premature graying / hair loss
Eyes grey, green or copper brown and sharp because of good digestion with an inclination for strong taste whether sweet or

bitter / astringent.Do not tolerate sunlight or heat.

Psychologically
Good power of comprehension
Intelligent and sharp generally good orators
Strong exhibitions of emotions
Materialistic and enjoy exhibiting the wealth and luxuries
.

Few diseases described due to vitiation of blood are
Kusta (many skin conditions including leprosy)
Factors that vitiate blood are:
Consumption of alcohol, excessive intake of salt, sour, pungent, unctuous and heavy food items, consuming stale foods, spicy
food, overeating, sleeping immediately after food, exposure to too much of heat / sun, stress, and not performing
Raktamokshana. Apart from these rakta is also vitiated naturally in Sharad ( autumn) ritu.

Stages of digestion
Second stage The food gets converted into Ama (undigested food) stage induces production and release of pitta.

"Pitta is produced from the disintegrated red blood cells in the liver."

Pathogenesis
So pitta and blood have a very close relationship. An increase in pitta may go into the blood causing toxicity, and thus
many pittagenic disorders. "Tap" तप: means heat. As pitta mainly consist of fire. The seven tissues (dhatus)  which constitutes
the body decay all the time (therefore body is also called {शरीर }, and receive replenishment through food. Upon digestion
food releases two products, both of which are regarded as 1 . Nutrients or formation of tissues (dhatus) Prasada dhatu contribute
to the building and repair of seven tissues; 2 . Waste products or Maladhatu such as  sweat, urine and feces etc.
Also include vata, pitta and kapha which remain essential so long  as they maintain in due proportion with reference to themselves as well as to the other tissues. When vata, pitta and kapha become deficient or excessive in quantity (perturbed or prekupit) they become doshas which unsettled the tissues in a variety of disorders. As the victims of disturbance, tissues (dhatus ) are called Doshas ( दोष) Doshas has preferential abodes even though they move all over the body through ubiquitous channels. Pitta  is located in the stomach. Sweet creates Kapha which acts against Vata and pitta.

Toxin (Ama) or undigested food
Conjugation with Dosha
When it conjugated with Pitta, gives rise to burning sensation in throats and cardiac region, sour belching, foul smelling,
greenish mucous and feeling of heaviness.

Whether in normal or abnormal quantities, Vata, Pitta and Kapha are always present in the body.
In the normal state the three doshas perform critical functions which sustain body activities.
Pitta upholds :
1 . Pitta energizes Vision and digestion
2 . And underlies diverse urges and qualities such as hunger, thirst , heat, brightness, and softness
of body.
3 . Cheerfulness and intellect.

Doshas are in fact  no different from other Constituents  (dhatus). They carry one element as the main and other element as the secondary constituents. Thus Pitta is made up of Fire and water.
So long as they are in the proportion, they are essential Waste products (Maladhatus). They become disease (doshas) when the proportion is seriously disturbed.

Dosas in mind : Tridosas primarily work upon the body but rajas and tamas would upset mind. Body and mind echoed each other in health and disease and the final cause of most illnesses was imprudent conduct, which was rooted in the mind.

The varied strength of digestive fires, which characterize a constitution from birth. Apart form the principal, fire in the stomach, fire specific to each tissues (dhatus)  are constantly active in the body. Fires in the body belong to the category of fire among the five elements which constitute nature.

Charak states that  the three dosas are in balance in a constitution when the fires in the stomach and the tissues (dhatus) are in equilibrium. In a so called Vatala constitution (Body Type )  the fires become irregular, in pittal, the fires are intensified, and the Kapha / slesmala constitution is marked by subdued fires. In other words , the dosa constitution, has more to do with the status of digestive fires and less with dosas.

Tridosha Doctrine
A powerful effect of dosas could suggest another explanation - vata, pitta and kapha could represent three families of receptors  which are distributed across the body and are activated by specific molecular patterns or other specific stimuli in the internal or external environment. Once activated, a cascade of cellular signals would follow, affecting all kinds of cells, and no response would remain 'purely local' in so far as the receptors are  generalized in distribution. The cellular signal could lead to the release of a wide range of  substances such as cytokines and initiate inflammatory  and other phenomena. The activation  of vata, pitta and kapha receptors could also send wake up signals to the immune system and trigger another set of response.

Pitta contains fire (agni)  and stabilizes or destabilizes the equilibrium of the dosas depending upon whether it is unperturbed or perturbed.

Normal functions of pitta:

  • Digestion

  • Heat of the body

  • Color & complexion of the body

  • Vision

  • Causing hunger & thirst

  • Desire

  • Intelligence

  • Bravery

  • Softness of body parts.

"In Summer & Autumn or Sharad Ritu Pitta disorders are aggravated.

The Pitta skin is photosensitive it has the last tolerance to the sun and most likely to accumulate sun damage over the

years.

SLEEP

6 - 8 hours of sleep is Pitta’ s average.

SEASONS

Rhythm of the seasons

Spring is a combination of Pitta - Kapha.

Summer is pitta season; moist and warm.

The digestive fire is naturally low during hot weather, so your appetite may decrease. Respect this change by not overeating.

Favor cool food and drink but not ice cold, favor sweet, bitter and astringent tastes and reduce sour, salty and pungent ones.

Your body will desire more fluids in hot weather but avoid large volumes of icy cold liquids during or after meals.

Pitta goes of balance in summer and Pitta -balancing activities and diet are needed.
  • Pitta is aggravated in Autumn Season.
  • Pittaja during midday and midnight. Still another example of the influence of time is the observation that vataja, pittaja and kaphaja disorders peak in the last, middle and initial phases of life.
  • Also, vataja diseases worsen after digestion, when the stomach is empty:
  • Pittaja during digestion and kaphaja after the meals.
  • In Varsha ritu pitta undergoes only accumulation(Caya),because of the food substances that are used posses Amla vipaka,,but not prakopa
merely because of the coldness of the season. The pitta which accumulates in Varsha ritu, will be aggravated in Sarat ritu
and subsides automatically in Hemanta ritu.

Phase of life
  • Peak in the Middle phases of life.

Digestion

  • Pitta diseases worsen during digestion. (that is 3 hours after intake of food)

"Pitta and Kapha are opposite to each other."

Dryness
  • Fever
  • Spices :Dry ginger, black pepper, mustard, clove, fenugreek
  • Dry foods.(vegetable without gravy.)
  • Heater (keep a bucket of water in the room for humidification.)
  • Dryness in air in winter (Apply moisturizer)
  • Medicines :Anti Allergic,Antihistamine for cold.
  • Dry fruits when eaten without soaking in water.
  • Air-conditioner (keep a bucket of water in the room for humidification.)
  • Dehydration : Diarrhea, vomiting.(Take lots of fluids)
  • Alcohol
  • Excess of salt in diet will increase dryness.
  • Kadha
  • Continuous  use of Triphala.
  • Hot water
  • Dryness in form of constipation.
  • Dry Cough without expectorant.
  • Dryness in skin causing itching.

Property
  • Mobile and stinging
  • Slightly oily, mildly lubricant
  • Heat, Sharpness, Fluidity, Sour taste, discoloration
  • Pitta as hot, sharp light and slightly oily
  • Hotness, make him poorly resistant to heat.
  • Excessively hungry and thirsty
  • Sharpness expresses itself in strength,
  • Liquidity, is seen in mobile joints and muscles
  • Copious output of sweat, urine and feces.
  • Carnal  smell,  Soreness and pungency in his body
  • A high degree of digestive power, gluttony (over eating) and poor endurance.
  • Light
  • The Pitta individual is moderate in longevity, strength, knowledge
  • Capacity to understand and prosperity
  • And causes cutaneous manifestations such as moles, pimples, wrinkles, graying and falling of hair.
  • Brown mustache among others.
Pitta and Weight Gain
  • Pitta people, due to their good appetite tend to go overboard with rich food and over the years
this leads to weight gain and health problems.
  • Pitta people also tend to overdo their love for rich and fatty, and fried foods
  • They may also develop a craving for sweet foods when under stress. The lethal combination of
rich, fatty food and sugar can lead to health problems and weight gain
  • Pitta people who enjoy sports , in their youth tend to give it up in their later years and this is yet
another reason for the excess weight.

Lifestyle
Some suggestions to reduce aggravated Pitta symptoms:
  • Keep cool.
  • Avoid excessive exposure to sun.
  • Trust your feelings and express them
  • Pitta people should wake up at  5.30 A.M
  • Spend the evening hours in terraces by enjoying the moonlight
  • Hear the light music, which is palpable to the mind

  • Anoint body with sandlewood / Chandan paste and take bath
  • Stay in cool places
  • Wear loose cotton clothes to keep the body temperature cool.
  • Avoid skipping meals,
  • Alcohol should not be consumed
  • Exertion should be avoided
  • Exposure to sunlight should be avoided. Exposure to sun aggravates Pitta.
  • Cool atmosphere. Keeping cool by having cold showers, sitting on green lawns and living in cool houses.
  • Amusements, instrumental music.
  • Enjoying a ‘moon bath’ at night.
  • Resisting from sleeping during the day
    • Avoid becoming too goal oriented. Take time to do things just for the sake of doing them
    • Sitting outside on a starry night gazing at the moon is very soothing for Pitta.
    • Take a relaxing walk instead of playing a competitive games.
    • Reduce friction, as friction increases the systemic heat under the skin.
    • Cool down by drinking water, cool mint tea,
    • Cool the skin by hydrating It - cool cloth on the forehead,, behind the neck. Slices of cucumber on the eyelids.
    • Soothing music and nature sounds can be helpful.
    • Breath slowly and deeply through the left nostril while closing the right.
    • Meditate.
    • The optimum treatment environment should be a cool room, with the shades drawn,as a person with increases Pitta
    will have sensitivity to light.

    Yoga

    • Avoid excessive exposure to sun.
    • Moderate yoga should be performed.

Virechana treatment is purgation Therapy. . Mild purgation with laxation drugs. Verachana treatment for skin problem . What is  Virechana It is one of the Panchakarma procedure wherein body toxins are flushed through controlled purgation. The naval region is the seat of Pitta and Virechana is the best treatment to overcome the accumulation of excessive pitta otherwise it leads to diseases such as abscess, liver disorder, diabetes, gastritis, skin disorders, etc. Palliative drugs or Shamana medicines are given orally if the aggravation of Dosha are minimal and if Doshas are highly aggravated, then shodhana (Detoxification) is required.

What are the benefits: By clearing toxins from the body, it purifies blood, promotes deep purification within the tissues, eliminates toxins that are accumulated in the liver, gall bladder, spleen, blood, reproductive organs and skin. The entire gastro-intestinal tract is flushed out by this safe and gentle method of treatment.

Who can go for the treatment: If one suffers from skin disease, non-healing wounds, ulcers, abscess, liver disease, jaundice, ascites, spleenomegaly, anemia, disorders related to urogenital system, gout, hemorrhoids and even a few of bleeding disorders (in the upper part of the body), DIABETES and OBESITY then Virechena is the right form of treatment.

Who cannot go for the treatment:  Does Virechana have a few contraindications? If one suffers from fever of recent origin, diarrhea, dysentery, bleeding in the lower parts of the body such as bleeding per rectum, at the menstruation, person suffering from poor digestive issues, emaciated and people who are undergoing kashaya basti, pregnant, person above 70 years and below 15 years are not eligible for the treatment.

Procedure & Medicine: Virechana begins with an initial consultation by the Ayurveda doctor, who can determine an individual’s prakruti (body constitution), the nature of the health problem, level of metabolism and the toxin accumulation. Medicines used in Virechana are based upon individual body constitution, doshic imbalances, age, digestive strength, immune status, season, and a lot of other factors. Duration of the treatment varies from 10 to 15 days. Diet restrictions are to be strictly followed to attain a maximum level of detoxification. Medication is prescribed upon analysis of the digestive capacity with an aim to improve and correct the digestive fire for the first 3 to 5 days. Light vegetarian food is ideal during these days.

A medicated ghee is prescribed on 4th to 6th day in an increasing dosage which is easily absorbed in the body. The dosage and days are fixed again depending on the toxin level and digestive fire (though number of days may vary). Diet is catered according to individual body constitution but foods such as thinner version of porridge cooked from green gram/ red rice is ideal. This helps in diluting the toxins from all the organs.

What are the indications that treatment is working? Are toxins being diluted? Symptoms such as headache, not being hungry, sweating or when skin looks bit too oily (Sneha Snigdha Lakshana) and ghee passes through the motions indicates that body is working towards diluting toxins. Though symptoms may vary from one person to the other these are only positive indicators and nothing to worry about.

How do toxins come out? Going forward from the 7th or 10th day Abhyanga is performed along with steam until next three days. This medicated oil, Abhyanga treatment along with a prescribed diet (well cooked rice with certain vegetables or porridge) will help the toxins come to the intestines and to the nearest exit point.

How are toxins removed? 10th or the 15th day onwards (3rd day of Abhyanga) an overall routine pulse check will be conducted followed by final detoxifying medicine (to be taken in an empty stomach between 8am-9.30am) while having hot water every15mins throughout the day. Please be aware, Purgation may start 30 minutes of taking the medicine and stools would mostly be green or black in colour. Always remember to keep a count which will be an important factor to decide further diet. The positive attribute about this treatment is one does not feel any kind of discomfort or tiredness on this day. Best to avoid mobiles and laptops on your last day of treatment.
